Sugar cookies are a special addition to any event due to their endless shape and color possibilities. I used this recipe during Christmas, and my guests were left speechless as they devoured my delicious treat. Homemade sugar cookies are way more delicious than the premade dough that can be bought in stores, so I created a simple and delicious recipe that is worth the additional time. You’ll be left speechless when you try this recipe!
Start the dough by creaming together butter and sugar, and then follow this step by adding eggs and vanilla to the mixture until well combined.
Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt into a separate bowl, and add this to the previous wet ingredients.
Once the wet and dry ingredients are combined, separate the dough into quarters and wrap it into plastic wrap to leave in the refrigerator to chill for at least 2 hours. I recommend leaving it overnight to make it easier to roll out to create unique shapes.
After the dough is completely chilled, preheat the oven to 400°F.
Sprinkle flour on your surface and rolling pin to stop the dough from sticking, and then roll out your dough about 1cm thick to add extra flavor to the cookies. Cut out an array of shapes with cookie cutters to make the cookies extra festive for the particular occasion.
Line your cookie sheets with parchment paper to make the cookies a perfect golden brown and not burn. Remember the dough spreads as it bakes; so do not place the unbaked dough too close on the sheet. I recommend baking the cookies for around 6-8 minutes; however, the time varies depending on the size and thickness of your cookies.
Once the cookies are pulled out of the oven and done cooling, it’s time to decorate! Combine powdered sugar, milk, honey, and vanilla extract to create the perfect sugar cookie icing.
Separate the icing into multiple bowls, and add food coloring if desired. Before the icing hardens, place sprinkles on the cookies for an extra decorative touch.
